A Tribute to Dr. Barbara Post

It is with disbelief and deepest grief, that we announce the premature death of Dr. Barbara Post, an honourary lifetime member of our Club. At only 47 she left us on Sunday unexpectedly. She was a huge pillar in the Eurasier world, far beyond her native Germany. Dedicated, knowledgable, competent, wherever she went, she was welcomed because of her friendly way, her ability to listen to others, her wisdom and her positive way of being , and last but not least for her humour.
Besides her deeply founded love for the breed, she had a profound knowledge of the Eurasier, and she always was interested in the people behind the breed. Her talent as a photographer was only topped by her husband Thomas, but many Eurasier enthusiasts around the world would log on to her web site and enjoy the variety of information she offered there. Barbara had 7 Eurasiers in her life, the first one , a female she and Thomas acquired in 1985 from the Rothenklingen kennel. Her interest in the canine world led her to breed two litters and also own a Samoyed.
In 2004 she started a 4 year program  to become a certified breed steward. In 2006 she attended the first Eurasier conference in Canada and contributed to its success. Since that year. she published articles in the Eurasier magazine on a regular basis. In 2007, she started transferring breed data ,which so far had only been on paper, into an electronic database. To date, this information gathered represents the base of the breeding program and Barbara had managed to collect info of 5500 dogs plus 8000 pictures. In 2009 ,she started training to become a Eurasier specialty judge. In the same year, she was called to take over the main position of the breeding board, a job she took very seriously, and a mission she was well prepared for. Under her guidance, the systematic screening for thyroid disease in the breed was launched. Besides all these activities, she worked in her husband's medical practice, she was a wonderful friend to very many, and she was a lovely wife to Thomas.

How hard it will be to continue without you Barbara!
But how privileged we all were who knew you !
The legacy you left behind is huge.
We are deeply gratefull for all your hard wor and dedication. We will never forget you!

Your friends at the Eurasier Club of Canada
